Vanilla Custard

In a large pot, combine the milk, sugar and salt. Occasionally stirring,
bring mixture to a boil.
Stir in the vanilla and butter. Place the custard into a cool pan or container and refrigerate until thoroughly cool (usually about two hours). Place in serving bowls or tarts and serve.
