Old, broken crayons can be salvaged in this fun kitchen activity for school-age kids. With just a few minutes in the oven, old crayons become blocks of brand new crayons in colors the kids create. These block crayons are especially great for making rubbings.
Materials:
- Old non-stick muffin pan
- Muffin-size paper baking cups
- Old crayons (without paper wrapping)
Directions:
- Preheat oven to about 250° F.
- Line each muffin space with paper baking cup.
- Put five or so crayon pieces in each paper baking cup.
- Place the muffin pan in the oven until the crayons melt. Watch closely!
- Once the crayons melt together, take them out of the oven.
- Let the crayons cool overnight.
- Peel away the paper and go color!
