This is a simple feeder your kids or boyscout troup will enjoy making. The materials are all very inexpensive.

Materials:

  • Long, narrow plastic container (like an extra large prescription bottle, or economy-size plastic spice jar.
  • 1/4 inch thick wooden dowel, 5 or 6 inches long, depending on width of container.
  • Small hook screw
  • Thistle bird seed
  • Hot glue gun
  • 1/2 inch drill bit
  • acrylic craft paint
  • drill with 1/4 inch bit
Directions: Drill hole in bottom of container on both sides. Slide in dowel, leaving longer on one side for the bird to sit on. Attach screw to top. Paint top and bottom if you like. Put in bird seed, hang it on a tree and wait for the finches.
